Little did we know that when the new year turned to 2020 we would face an epic chapter in our history. We were all going about our lives with little thought of a pandemic. From World War II Vets, to Baby Boomers, Gen Xs, Millennials, all the way to Gen Zs we had never seen a disease sweep across our world with such devastating effects as the coronavirus Covid 19. How could we have known? Should we have been suspicious when we had been taking our mostly peaceful existences for granted? Suddenly we are thrust into a new world full of questions that each of us have to deal with in our own way.
I have found that I deal with my isolation from friends and family by working at something different every day. I write more, I read more, I study more, and I talk more. I use all the media available to speak with people around the country and around the world. Through the modern digital world we can virtually meet with people we have never met in person. We can have long conversations with each other and address our concerns and thoughts about what we will do to make it to the end of this; and what we will do after it’s over.
I’m looking forward to seeing all my friends again when I won’t feel like I’m going to bring something terrible and deadly into their lives if I get close to them. My wife and I want to hug our extended family again. I want to see my writing friends and meet with them again. I want normal. I have to believe that’s what everyone wants now. I’m not prepared to accept that we will have to be satisfied with a new normal, whatever that might be. There is light at the end of this. We just have to keep our minds busy and our bodies moving to get through this.
