Spokane Fiction Writers Group is dedicated to bringing fiction writers together for collaboration and social interaction. Monthly meetings include presentations, writing exercises, and discussions. All levels of experience in writing are welcome in our group. All manners of fiction writers are welcome. Short stories, novels, graphic novels, magazine articles. If you are a serious, motivated writer or author who wants substantive feedback, opinions, and focused discussions from dedicated writers who share your love of writing, we welcome you to our group.
Attending our monthly meetings will be required to reap the benefits of what our group has to offer to seasoned and novice writers alike. We cover a broad range of topics and the depth of the topics is based on the consensus of the members who decide the specific information to be discussed or presented at the end of each meeting. After consensus, the topic is assigned to a volunteer member and the presentation is prepared prior to the subsequent monthly meeting. Writing exercises also play a large part of our group activities. Usually, writing exercises one thousand words or less written by our member writers. Writing these exercises are voluntary but strongly encouraged. The topic is based on scenes or situations decided by the members during the previous monthly meeting and are read to the entire group during the meetings. Discussions of the work is then discussed by the entire group with the writer of the work describing their reasoning for the way their work was structured, plotted, and/or developed. This method works for plotters and pantsers and have proven to be one of the most popular activities in our group’s curriculum.
While we are a very busy and energetic group we still find the time for lively and fun-filled conversations. Some discussions wheel away to other topics but it is always centered around writing. That is the focus of our group and we adhere to a philosophy of keeping on topic during our discussions.
If you are a writer, accomplished or beginner, who is highly motivated to succeed with a career in writing we are the group for you. If you are willing to apply your energy, imagination, and a strong work ethic we want you as a member of our group.
